    The head of this department is a Class 1 officer of the State Government. His designation is of the rank of Deputy Chief Executive Officer, District Program Coordinator (MG-NAREGA). The entire control of the Gram Panchayat is maintained through the Panchayat Department. Also, various schemes of the central and state governments are propagated and implemented in a very excellent manner through this department. There are a total of 551 gram panchayats in the district in 8 panchayat Samiti’s. For this, 322 Gram Sevak and 53 Gram Development Officers and 25 Extension Officers (Panchayats) are available at the Panchayat Samiti level. The work of this department is carried out as per the Mumbai Gram Panchayat Act 1958. Through this department, all the activities of the Government of Maharashtra are implemented in the Swachhata Abhiyan. , in Anganwadi, the work is done to provide facilities like toilets and drinking water. For this, private rooms and necessary manpower are available at the district level. The Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme is effectively implemented through this department on the basis of every work of the central government. 50 percent of the work of this scheme is done at the Gram Panchayat level and the remaining 50 percent of the work (agency) is done through various departments of the state government.
