Water and Sanitation Department

This Department comes under Zilla Parishad; The Head of the Department is a Class 1 officer of the State Government. His designation is Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Water Supply and Sanitation). The entire control of the Gram Panchayat is maintained through the Panchayat Department. Also, various schemes of the central and state governments are propagated and implemented in a very excellent manner through this department. There are a total of 551 gram panchayats in the district in 8 Panchayat Samiti’s. For this, manpower is available in the form of 322 Gram Sevak and 53 Gram Development Officers and 25 Extension Officers (Panchayat) at Panchayat Samiti level and Contractual Engineer and Assistant Project Officers and Data Entry Operators at each Panchayat Samiti level. Village Swachhata Abhiyan Yojana is implemented through this department.

Objectives

• The District Water and Sanitation Mission implements important schemes of the Central Government, namely Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and Jal Jeevan Mission, at the village level.
• The department provides individual toilet incentive grant of Rs. 12,000/- to eligible beneficiaries under the centrally sponsored scheme Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). Also, public toilet construction and solid waste and sewage management projects are implemented at the village level.
• The Jal Jeevan Mission provides individual tap connections to families without individual tap connections under the centrally sponsored scheme.
• Training on various topics related to sanitation and public awareness activities are implemented through the District Water and Sanitation Mission.
