    Animal Husbandry Department

    The Head of Animal Husbandry Department is a Class 1 Officer of the State Government. He has the designation of District Animal Husbandry Officer. Many State and Central Government schemes are effectively implemented through this department to increase animal husbandry and milk production. There are Veterinary Clinics Category 1 – 27 and Category 2 – 37 in the district. A total of 64 such clinics are functioning. In this, a doctor is appointed through the state government and is designated as Livestock Development Officer. Also Livestock Development Authority (Extension) is working as head in Panchayat Samiti level office.

    Through this department, the artificial insemination centers for animal husbandry are improved in pedigrees to increase production capacity, preventive vaccination for the elimination of infectious diseases, diagnosis and treatment of animal diseases, distribution of animals under various schemes of the government and follow-up of schemes are done through the department.

    According to the cattle census, the total number of cattle in this district is 736531 out of which 12899 are hybrid animals, 101634 buffaloes, 159330 sheep and 159330 goats. Out of this 11151 cattle have been slaughtered also 307890 poultry. According to the standard 250 ml of milk per person is required but in our district the availability of milk is 119.7 ml per person. The system is constantly striving to increase this.
