Introduction
Gondia District newly created on 1 May 1999, situated at the extreme eastern tip of Maharashtra State is a predominantly Adivasis district. The district has a total of 8 Pachanyat Samiti and 9 Integrated Child Development Projects and 545 Gram Panchayats are functioning. Also the district has 40 Primary Health Centers, there are 258 sub-centres, 10 rural hospitals, 1017 Zilla Parishad primary schools, 21 middle schools, 17 higher secondary schools, 1568 functioning anganwadis and 237 mini anganwadis, 4 veterinary category-1 clinics, 34 veterinary category-2 clinics, 1421 former malgujaris. There are 2-large projects, 09-medium projects, 20-small projects for ponds and irrigation, on the basis of these facilities various schemes are implemented and developed for the maintenance and increase of per capita income of the people in the rural areas of the district.
